This is a large piece I’m working on based on Shakespeare’s “The Tempest.” Its modeled loosely around the Japanese emaki mono scrolls or story scrolls. The dimensions are 30 cm high and about 4 meters long so far, the final will be around 10-12.
So far i only have the plans laid down for Act one and two and i’m somewhere around 100 hours so i figured I’d take a break from drawing and throw together a short trailer to get a little hype going for this thing.
The piece follows the general happenings of the play almost to a T, with some design and setting choices that i got from reading the play… around six times. The Character assignments are as follows:
Prospero: Mandrill monkey
Ariel: All birds
Miranda: Young girl wearing a veil….shes kind of stupid and innocent in a childlike way so i made her real young like, and veil is for virgin.
Caliban: deformed hunchback faun,
Ferdinand: Fatty wearing a mask ( fat cause he’s hungry fo’ da’ sexin and a mask… because i find it hard to believe his true intentions.)
Alanso: Elephant King
Gonzalo: The friendly bear…sometimes.
Antonio and Sebastian: two headed snake (i thought very fitting)
Trinculo: a man/chicken jester, grumpy
Stephano: A hilarious drunk with an octopus on his head to hold all the booze (perhaps a friend from the storm….)
I apologize if the quality of the video is a little shitty. I posted large pics below so you can go through at your own pace…Enjoy!!
Feel free to share this. If you like it maybe others will too!
Act II
Ok, again, its been a while since i posted last, and i remember that i had said that i would try to get better at posting more often, but i’m not gunna lie to you….i have severe ADD. Anyways, some new stuff bumpin around the studio lately. To simplify the basics:
t-shirt desgn
disc design
2011 snowboard design finalization
some sand sculpting
some new hook up, and…
…..the tempest.
I’m starting a new piece based on japanese emaki scrolls. (Story scrolls). For the past week or so i’ve been
working on creating an emaki remake of shakespears, “the Tempest.” I’m remaking it with my own twists and characters etc, but it follows the story almost directly. The storyboard itself is about 4 meters long. so it will be interesting to lay it down on wood and see the final legnth. The final product will be broken up by act, probably be about 8 meters long and take me somewhere between 500-800 hours….aka, new hotness. it would be great if i could pull this off. Anyways, enjoy some pics. i don’t think anyone reads the blurbs anyways….(just kidding, props if yougot this far)
